Decorative vacuum coating is a three layer
coating, consisting of a base
lacquer which is applied to the substrate to attain adhesion of the finish, cover
surface imperfections and produce a glossy surface onto which pure aluminium is
deposited under high vacuum. A final coating of lacquer is then applied to
protect the thin aluminium film, can be tinted to give various gold or coloured effects and
give the total finish marr and chemical resistance. The finish can be applied to
most plastics, glass, ceramics and metals. Typical applications are novelties,
glass bottles, packaging, reflectors and point of sale displays.
